The time has come…

Hello my beautiful love buggins!  Yes, that’s right.  The time has come for me to announce this months giveaway.  I have been working diligently on a recipe for a solid perfume that won’t melt in the summer heat. Well I finally perfected it!  I tested this by leaving it in my car during a 98 degree day here in Ga.  And while it did get a bit softer than it was, it wasn’t even close to melting.  YAY!  Can we all say SUCCESS??!!

In case you didn’t notice, I’m a bit stoked about this.  My first few attempts were good but definitely too soft to survive shipping during the summer months.  I am in love with solid perfumes for several reasons.  The main reason being I can put them in my purse and take them anywhere.  They are small and don’t take up much room and they won’t ever leak out of a bottle all over my purse and the contents therein.

I was going to post a picture of it, but my camera has dead batteries.  I guess it’s all the pictures I took yesterday.  So I’ll have to give you a visual tomorrow.  So on to the giveaway info.  This months giveaway is a bar of my summer citrus soap and a solid perfume.

The rules to play the game are the same as always.  Leave a comment on the blog within the next week.  On July 22nd I’ll pick a winner.  If you don’t have a link in your signature for me to get in touch with you, please feel free to email me and let me know you entered.  If you win I’ll email you.  If you have a link in your siggy I’ll post there to let you know.  I’ll also post the winner here.

Good Luck to everyone and let the game begin!  🙂

P.S.  In case nobody told you today, you are a strikingly beautiful and magnificently made creature.  I’m also digging the orange/hot pink aura thing you have goin on tonight.  Groovy!

Summer Citrus on a beautiful day.

Hello my most fabulous friends!  I hope things are wonderful in your part of the world today.  Things here have returned to normal and that’s fantastic.  My mother is recovering slowly but surely.  She’s minding her doctors and has a new neurosurgeon who she adores.

My hours at the shop have calmed down and I’ve had more time to create again.  It feels so very good to be back in the studio and getting lost in art.   I also discovered several projects I had begun before all of this happened that I had forgotten about.  I’m anxious to finish them and post pics.  I’m also working on getting caught up on the J’s so those pics will be posted soon as well.

Last night I decided I wanted to make a new batch of soap.  I’ve had some scents that I’ve wanted to work with for a while now and last night I did.  The result was this summer citrus soap.  I made this with the hot process method in the crock pot.  I absolutely love the way the colors turned out.  It’s a lovely yellow soap with pink embeds.  It has a bright sparkly citrus fruity scent that is heavenly!

It was so much fun making this soap.  I had to laugh this morning when I woke up and couldn’t wait to cut it.  I can’t really explain why I was so happy and excited about this batch, but honestly I felt like I was a kid on Christmas morning.  After I trimmed the bars and made the soap balls I washed my hands.  The lather was amazing.  This was a new recipe and I’m really really happy with it.

And just a heads up, it’s almost time for another giveaway.  WOO HOO!  I love giveaways.  They are so much fun and I always make new friends in the process.

The rest of today is going to be spent creating.  I love you all and I mean that sincerely.  🙂  Now hug your most beautiful self and go out and have a jazzy kinda day!  I’ll see you tomorrow.

Pink snails and passion.

Hello you gorgeous luminous beings!  Tonight I got a phone call from a friend who also helps with the accounting for Peachbutter Studio Arts.  He was calling because he is out of his favorite soap and I don’t have any restock made right now.  This led to a discussion about how many hours I’ve been working lately and how tired I have been when I’m not working.  During the course of this conversation he reminded me that while I need to pay the bills, I also need to follow my passions.  In my case that is art and soap making.  I related to him how I feel like I’ve been moving at a snail’s pace lately with my art and how frustrating that can be at times.  As we talked, I was doodling.  I do this a lot when I’m on the phone.  I was doodling swirls and there it was right in front of me.  A snail-shell.

I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with life and underwhelmed with my artwork lately.  I’m pretty sure this is due to the fact that it feels like I’ve only had time to do whimsical sketches and drawings recently.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love the playfulness of my art, even in my doodles and such.  But there is a deeper side of me that paints canvas works that take days and sometimes weeks to complete.  These are the pieces I’ve been missing lately.  I know that part of this is because I’ve committed to creating a J a day no matter what.  The fact of the matter is that it takes time to do this.  Even on the days when the J’s are very simple, it still takes time to create them.

I realized tonight that I’ve been “shoulding” on myself.  I should be making more serious art for this project.  I should be able to do more than one J a day.  I should be organizing the show already.  I should I should I should….. AHHHHHHH!!!   The truth is, I am doing this because I have a passion for art.  I am doing this because I want to make a difference, even if it’s just a small difference, in someones life.  I am doing this because I believe that we all have gifts, talents and passions that are supposed to be shared with the world.  If I can make one person smile with my art then it has accomplished what I set out to do.

So no more shoulding on me.  I am going to create the best J’s I can in the given amount of time I have each day.  This means some days they will be doodles or sketches and some days they will be completed works that I have been painting for weeks.  All art, all good in its own way.  *Deep cleansing breath*  I already feel better!  Isn’t it cool when we can get off our own backs?  Tonight’s J is titled J83 Pink Snail J.  I think she’s cute.

J83 Pink Snail J

I might go back and add a poem to the empty blue space.  Something along the lines of…Run your own race…..follow your own pace.  What do you think?  This is done with copic markers on watercolor paper so it would be easy to go back in and write some.

I hope you aren’t “shoulding” on yourself today.  If you are, knock it off.  Seriously, it’s just extra stress you don’t need.  Besides, when we do that we are just blocking all the joy from our lives.  Be kind to yourself today.  Don’t forget to give somebody and hug and a kiss today.  It matters and so do you!

New Bird Finds Home and Random Information

Hello All of You Beautiful People!

Just a quick post tonight to bring everyone up to speed.  I’m making birds like crazy.  I have several of them that are almost ready for new homes.  They just need hats, ties and other birdy accessories.  🙂

This is a pic of the latest bird.  Her name is Tiffany.  She was listed on Peachbutter last wednesday, and thursday morning I had an email that she had sold.  WOOT!!  I love it when my birds find new homes with loving owners.  Here she is……

I’m also going to be placing a doll I made on Peachbutter tomorrow.  Her name is Hannah.  Hannah is machine sewn, hand stuffed and completed by hand.  Her hair is needle felted to her head.  Her facial features are hand painted on with acrylic paint.  Hannah wears a primitive dress with a little pink holiday glitz.  I mean what girl doesn’t like a little glitz right?  She also comes with her own little rabbit.  Her rabbit is button jointed and can sit or hang.  Hannah is scented with vanilla and cinnamon.  Her rabbit has also been heavily distressed and wears her own little outfit with sparkly pink ear ribbons.  These girls are looking for a forever home for the holidays.  Do you know anyone who would like to adopt them?  If so, please direct them to www.Peachbutter.com.   The wonder dog and myself would most certainly appreciate it!  Here are pics of Hannah and her bunny for you…..

We couldn't have a close up of Hannah without a close up of her bunny.

Now I’m off to make some more bird legs.  It’s so amazing to me, the more I make them the more I love them.  I want to find a nice tree branch to perch them all on for a photograph.  I’ll post pics when I get it done.

That’s all the pics for today.   Be well, be happy and be free.  Remember love is always always the answer.  Thank you for taking the time to visit!  I love you guys so much.

And the winner is……..

Angela from Texas!  Congratulations and thank you for your comment!  You will be receiving your free bar of  Christmas Mango Twist in the mail this next week.  I will be shipping it out to you first thing monday morning.  I hope you enjoy it and I’m anxious to hear any feedback you may have about it.  🙂

On another note, I am just adding a silly gratuitous pic of the wonder dog to elicit smiles and saturday joy in abundance.  hehe  Besides, I’m her mom and I think she’s all cute and stuff.

Maddison Isabella's First Snow

Maddison experiencing snow for the first time last year.

It’s been so deliciously chilly this past week I wonder if we are going to get snow here in Ga. this year.  I hope so!  It’s so beautiful and so much fun for a day or two.  I’m sure I would feel differently if I lived further north where it lasts for weeks on end.  LOL  Enjoy your day.  Love yourself.  Love others.  Love the skin you’re dancin in!!  🙂

Sleep Study Results and Yummy New Soaps.

Well the sleep study results are in.  I don’t have sleep apnea!  YAY that part!  I do however, have something called Alpha Intrusion Disorder.  I have chronic pain and this condition is caused when someone has chronic pain and it changes their brain waves.  This causes them not to go into a deep REM sleep, which is what I have been experiencing for a few years now.  It’s not fun.  Some nights I wake up 12- 14 times.  I’m always hurting and I always need to move or turn to sleep better.  In my case, I finally get so exhuasted that I will need a night or a weekend day to just sleep for like 12 hours.  I’m beginning to explore some homeopathic paths to pain relief.  I’ve also stopped drinking caffeine after 3:00 in the afternoon.  This seems to be helping a bit.  I’m in love with blueberry herbal tea so that’s what I’ve been drinking at night.   If any of you want to leave comments about your sleeping disorders, please feel free to do so.  Just find all the tiny writing at the bottom of the posts and click on leave a comment.  We are all in this together.  🙂

Okay!  On to more fun topics.  I cut two logs of soap yesterday.  The first one is a cucumber scent and it is so clean smelling.  I also played around a bit with the coloring.  It was fun!   So here are the cut bars.

Handmade Cucumber Luxury Soap

Handmade Cucumber Luxury Soap. Yummmm!

The second log I cut was the grapefruit/orange soap.  OMG y’all I am in LOVE with this soap.  I used a grapefruit/orange essential oil blend on this one.  It smells just like juicy ripe grapefruits and oranges.  It’s also a vegan bar.  I was kind of surprised at how long the recipe took to trace, but it was worth the effort.  I colored half the batch a light pink grapefruit color and added just a touch of yellow to the other half then mixed them.  I love the soft understated way the colors came out!  I hope y’all like these too.

Tonight I’m going to work on completing a couple of birds.  I’ve got some cute ideas for bird hats and such so I’m going to try and get that done.   I’m working on getting myself organized.  Sometimes I feel like I’m running as fast as I can on the wheel and getting nowhere.  LOL   I hope you all have a day filled with peace, happiness, tons of smiles and more love than you can hold!

Coconut Lime Verbena Soap and Sleep Study

Todays post is going to be a bit short.  I have a sleep study test to take tonight and I’ve got a million things to get done today.  Yesterday I made some coconut lime verbena soap.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this soap because the fragrance oil smelled really strong in the bottle.  However, I know from past experience that this isn’t always telling of how the soap is going to smell after the cure.

Well let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised this morning!  When I woke up and opened my bedroom door, my entire kitchen/living room area smelled wonderful!  It was such a delightful way to start the day!   I’ll be putting this soap up on Peachbutter for sale tomorrow.   I’m including a couple of pictures so you can see the coconut lime goodness.  🙂

New Bird Babies In Progress and more Soap

I think I told y’all that I’ve been working on alot of new birds in the evenings lately.  I am finding it extremely calming and I am having so much fun watching them all come to life.   I decided to snap a pic of a few of the birds as they are in progress.

So far I am totally diggin the colors and the way they all look together.  I simply can’t wait until everyone has a beak and a face.  I’m also looking for new things to dress them with.  I am falling in love with things to make hats etc. for them.  They will be ready for new homes very soon.  In the meantime you can find some of their relatives who are already looking for homes at my website Peachbutter

I’m also going to be listing some more soaps soon.  The last batch is a mango scented soap with olive oil, coconut oil and shea butter.  It leaves your skin feeling so clean and so soft.  I LOVE it!   I’m calling it Christmas Mango Twist because I colored it for the holidays.   I’ll be giving away one bar of this soap this weekend.  If you would like a chance to win a bar, simply leave me a comment here with your email addy.  If you win I’ll email you and get your details and you’ll have a new and groovy bar of soap!  🙂

They’re here! YAY!

Some of my new soap scents arrived today!  WOOT!   I am in scent heaven again.  I ordered some Lovespell and it is DEEEEEVINE!!!  Seriously I’m in love with it.  I hope it soaps well.  I’m going to try it tomorrow.   For the last couple of days I’ve really been thinking about some different soaps I want to make.  I’m going to make an orange grapefruit EO soap.  I’m also going to make a soap and mix some patchouli with some fresh grass.  I think it will be a nice mix.  I hope so anyway.  I wonder how it would smell if I also added some citrus to that blend?    I’m going to try it and I’ll keep you posted.

I’m also looking at a couple of different ideas for a contest that you guys can enter and win either some soaps or a bird.  I haven’t exactly worked out the details, but I want to incorporate paying it forward somehow.  I’ll post more as I figure it out.   If any of you have any ideas I would love to hear them!  🙂

I’m working on a couple of new mandalas.  I’ve started a new art journal about my Papa and the wisdom He has shared with me over the last few years.  What has been amazing to me about this whole process is how easily the mandalas fit into the entire theme of this particular art journal.  I should have some pics in a day or two to share.

In the meantime, here are a few pics of new bird babies in various stages of completion.  I am in love with the hot pink and orange one!   I’m also in love with the red bird made out of some vintage material.  I have no idea what it is, but it’s fabulous.  I think she is going to be quite regal when done.

I can't wait until they are finished

I can't wait until they are finished

I’ve had an idea for these birds as well.  I will post some pics of them as soon as I get them finished.  I’m also pondering making some cake toppers with the birds.  I love the way their little personalities develop as I am creating them.  I’m also thinking about spray painting their legs.  Perhaps a trip to the hardware store will be in order tomorrow.  I’m thinking white, black and maybe red legs….and perhaps hot pink.

Well that’s all for today gang.  I hope you all are happy, warm and safe tonight.  Don’t forget to play, forgive and love.  I love you all.  Peace.

Back with more soap.

Hi Yall,

Wow!  I did NOT realize it has been this long since I last posted.  Life has been crazy over here.  I’ve been busy looking for a job, making soap, sewing birds, painting and trying to be a better human being.  I tell ya, I could easily get into a lil depression or funk over the job situation, but I refuse!  I have decided I am going to be cheerful and have faith no matter what!

So how does a girl who is out of a job fill the night hours?  Well she makes soap of course!  She paints and she sews birds.  I’ve made a LOT of soap since my last posting.  Guess what everyone is getting for Christmas?  LOL  I have joined a forum called The Dish.  There are so many wonderful people on this forum.  So many dedicated and educated soap makers.  There are heated discussions, as on any forum, but overall these people are exceptionally helpful and kind.  It’s so nice to have found such a supportive group.  As I become more familiar with them I am going to ask permission to post some of their soaps.  You will simply not believe the beautiful things these artists create!

So my last post I promised more pics of my soaps so here you go.  I’m going to be posting regularly again as I am finally getting into a rhythm with everything I need to get done during the day.  I want to thank those of you who have emailed me to make sure I am okay.  *BIG HUGS*  Yes I am and you bless me with your concern and caring!  🙂   Now on to the pics!

Cold Process Pink Flamingo Soap

Cold Process Pink Wave Soap

This was a batch of soap I made with an “Ocean” scent.  I was all proud of the waves on top.  Well it turns out this batch had lye pockets so I had to rebatch it so it was mellow and creamy.   Rebatching means you have to shred the soap up and cook it on the stove, in the crock pot or in the microwave in order to complete the saponification process and get rid of any lye.

And this is the rebatch.  Looks like spam!  LMAO!   The good news is that when I trimmed it, it was actually pretty and VERY creamy and smooth.  Everyone I gave a bar to LOVED it.  Live and learn.  🙂

Wave soap rebatch

Wave soap now known as spamorama! LOL

Next I made some peppermint soap.  I simply fell in LOVE with the way this turned out!  And it smells YUMMMMMMMMO!

Peppermint Soap with Gold Mica

Then I had to make some chocolate soap.  This has darkened up quite a bit since I took this pic.  It smells really good but I think next time I’ll add more fragrance oil.  This one kinda faded a bit in the process.  I also used some gold mica but it completely disappeared.  I’m still working on that.

Chocolate Soap

The next thing I wanted to try was some embeds.  I had some trimmings left over from an orange cranberry soap I made so I decided to incorporate them into a white log as an experiment.  I still had some of the orange cranberry scent left over so I went for it.

First Embeds Log

I got kind of excited when I unmolded it.  I could tell it was going to be fun and interesting when I cut it.

I was right!  It was so much fun cutting this soap!  I had a couple of people tell me it reminded them of the Korean flag.  I had so much fun with this particular project.  I am looking forward to trying it again.

For the last couple of days I have been making hot process soaps in the crockpot.  I am really enjoying this as well.  The soaps are turning out beautifully and the feel wonderful on my skin!  I’m completely hooked on them.  Tomorrow I will take some pics of the soaps I’ve made the last couple of days and post them here.  I hope you enjoyed these and thanks for looking!  🙂  Keep checking back because I’m going to be giving some of this soap away.  I am also going to be giving away a bird soon.  I am thinking of having a couple of contests just for fun.  Email me with any thoughts or ideas.  I LOVE hearing from yall!  🙂  Peace and love and more blogging tomorrow.
