A positive decision can change your life.

Hello you marvelous mind-blowing mondo cool go go dancing angels!  I hope you have had a splendid weekend.  I’ve been doing some redesigning and some painting this weekend.  I have decided to revamp Peachbutter’s logo.  One would think that my being an artist and all that I would have such an easy time with this task.  Not so I’m afraid.  I’m vacillating back and forth between three different designs.  I’ve been getting feedback from some friends and, par for the course, their feedback is all over the board.  LOL  I’m almost at the point of putting all three designs on the blog and Facebook and asking for feedback.

Tonight I want to share a couple of things with you.  The first thing I would like to talk about is the feeling of hopelessness and general malaise that so many people are dealing with right now.  While, it’s true that the US economy is struggling right now, it is not true that the end of the world has come.  I know people are hurting and many people are struggling right now.  I just want to reach out to all of you and tell you that it’s going to get better.  We are not a nation of quitters.  We are a nation of overcomers and champions!  Sometimes we get so caught up in focusing on what is wrong around us that we forget to step back and focus on what is fabulous.

I had dinner with a friend the other night and we were discussing things that we can do to make life better for those people we come into contact with.  There were the usual ideas of sharing food, clothes etc.  I made the comment that sometimes it’s the little things in life that people remember the most.  My friend looked at me and said, “Yeah it is.  It’s amazing what a touch can convey.  A warm hug or a sincere smile and compliment.  What it really boils down to is love.  It’s all about giving love.”  And you know what?  He’s exactly right.

I was doing a bit of reading today and I ran across this quote from Alistair Cooke……I think it’s something worth sharing and something I definitely want to remind myself of.

“In the best of times, our days are numbered anyway.  So it would be a crime against nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly, that it put off enjoying those things for which we were designed in the first place: the opportunity to do good works, to enjoy friends, to fall in love, to hit a ball and to bounce a baby.”

With these things in mind I wanted to show you some cool stuff.  Remember my joy at finding that little box of pastels the other day?  Well I have more funky groovy kinda news.  I cleaned out the rest of that trolly and not only did I find another box of the oil pastels but I found a box of chalk pastels as well as a small box of water based oil paints!  I think I need to reorganize and clean more often.  Just sayin.  Here is a pic of the newly found booty.

New found pastels

Aqua Oils

What is really funny about me finding all of these things is that I discovered them after I made a trip to the art supply store to purchase some new oil pastels.  I tried my sweet babies.  I tried with all my might to resist them.  I did!  I did!  I lusted after them online and closed the window and did some sketching.  I went back and lusted some more, closed the window and did some more sketching.  But, it was too late.  It was like some sort of art porn had possessed me and I had to have these oil pastels.  As I entered the doors the air conditioner hit my face, wafting me in with a gentle caress.  Yes, this was going to happen, there was no use fighting it anymore.  After a few minutes of letting my fingers dance over several different boxes, my choice was made.  I eagerly walked up to the register and purchased this box of deeply colored beauties.  They were mine.  I loved them and they loved me back.  And here they are in all of their colorful glory….

New Oil Pastels

I used oil pastels to complete J122.  Do you remember it?  This was the initial sketch…..

And here is the finished painting.  I decided to go whimsical with this piece.  I know I know….what a surprise. Heh.  I titled this J122 Hot Snack.

J122 Hot Snack

Here is a close up of the Lizard.  I had to put some pink cowgirl boots on her.  I mean seriously, a girl needs to be stylish when she’s munchin on hot chili peppers!

Hot Snack Close Up

So there you have it my angels.  I hope you found a smile or two here tonight.  You make me smile every time you visit, leave comments or email me.  I cherish it when you share with me and allow me to share in your joys.  I’m making the decision to look for the positive in my life and in those around me.  Won’t you join me in this?  Perhaps we will be a part of the solution instead of part of the problem.  I love you.  You’re spectacular and brilliant.  I’m blessed to know you!

Bird babies, solid perfume and friends.

Hello you cosmic unicycle riders!  How are things up there?  All is groovy I see.

I worked at the flower shop today for half a day.  It was one of those days that I had an opportunity to do a lot of thinking because it wasn’t very busy.  My mind was very active today and I had several new ideas for my art.  I also had some new ideas for some of my birds.  I put them away for a while because I was getting sort of obsessed with them.  Don’t get me wrong, I love them.  I think they are cute and funny and they make people smile.  It’s just that I was spending so much time concentrating on new patterns and new outfits for them that I kind of put other things on the back burner.

Today I pulled them back out and smiled when I realized how many of them are so close to being finished.  I also giggled a bit when I opened the second box to see how many of them are waiting for their wings, tails and beaks.  Here are a couple of pics so you can see what I am talking about.

Semi complete birds

Almost there!

Still waiting

Waiting on completion.

I’m going to make some of these into cake toppers.  I’m also going to be revealing a new line of birds in about a month or so.  I’m still working out the details for selling them.

I also wanted to show y’all the solid perfume I told you about yesterday.  I’m also working on a different container for these.  You know me, I can’t do anything without changing it up a bit.  LOL!  A wonderful friend told me this week that I do things with a “flair”.  That made me smile because honestly, I don’t do that on purpose.  This little tin has a plastic insert that holds the solid perfume.  It’s the perfect size for the purse or pocket.  I also like these because if you are traveling, you can take it with you on the plane.  I’m thinking of making some sets of these.  I think it would be cool to be able to have several scents and not have to worry about space or any travel restrictions.

This scent is a very light and clean with just a touch of spice.  It’s really a lovely scent.

I had lunch today with a friend.  We talked about changes and how life is too short to live it in fear and worry.  I’m so glad that I am surrounded by so many loving and wonderful friends.  I’m also grateful for the opportunities to be a good friend.  It’s all about balance and the give and take in life.  I am working very hard at becoming better in all areas of my life.  It feels good to have people who love me , and it’s good to have those friends who cheer me on as I reach my goals and dreams.

I hope that I am a cheerleader and encourager to you as well.  You are divine and delicious and you deserve all good things in life!  Enjoy your weekend and don’t forget to give away some love this week!  It always comes back bigger and better to you than it was when you sent it out.  How cool is that?!  🙂  Pay it forward baby!

The time has come…

Hello my beautiful love buggins!  Yes, that’s right.  The time has come for me to announce this months giveaway.  I have been working diligently on a recipe for a solid perfume that won’t melt in the summer heat. Well I finally perfected it!  I tested this by leaving it in my car during a 98 degree day here in Ga.  And while it did get a bit softer than it was, it wasn’t even close to melting.  YAY!  Can we all say SUCCESS??!!

In case you didn’t notice, I’m a bit stoked about this.  My first few attempts were good but definitely too soft to survive shipping during the summer months.  I am in love with solid perfumes for several reasons.  The main reason being I can put them in my purse and take them anywhere.  They are small and don’t take up much room and they won’t ever leak out of a bottle all over my purse and the contents therein.

I was going to post a picture of it, but my camera has dead batteries.  I guess it’s all the pictures I took yesterday.  So I’ll have to give you a visual tomorrow.  So on to the giveaway info.  This months giveaway is a bar of my summer citrus soap and a solid perfume.

The rules to play the game are the same as always.  Leave a comment on the blog within the next week.  On July 22nd I’ll pick a winner.  If you don’t have a link in your signature for me to get in touch with you, please feel free to email me and let me know you entered.  If you win I’ll email you.  If you have a link in your siggy I’ll post there to let you know.  I’ll also post the winner here.

Good Luck to everyone and let the game begin!  🙂

P.S.  In case nobody told you today, you are a strikingly beautiful and magnificently made creature.  I’m also digging the orange/hot pink aura thing you have goin on tonight.  Groovy!

Stamps, Flowers and Positive Energy

Hello you fabulous sexy creatures!  I hope you’ve had a good day.  I’ve been thinking about you all day today.  It was a wonderful day for me in the studio.  I got so much done today and also got a good start on some other things.  I woke up happy and energetic today.  I had so much creative energy that it was difficult to concentrate on one thing at a time.  I finally gave up on that plan and just let things flow naturally.  I actually accomplished more this way which I found really cool.

The first thing I did was sort through some stamps this morning.  I wanted some earth tones to use for a bottle I am altering.  The pile in the back is the one I used on the bottle.  See all the pretty colors in the front pile?  I’ve already got another idea for a way to use these.

Sorted Stamps

Sorted Stamp Piles

I love working with stamps.  It’s such a groovy feeling when I’m creating art out of tiny little pieces of paper that already have art on them.  It’s always interesting to me to see what comes from my spirit as I’m working.  I often have an idea of what I want to make but rarely have it completely planned out.  Most of the time I’m happy with the results.

Green bottle and stamps

Bare bottle and stamps

Here is the bottle before anything was added.  I used a very fine grit sandpaper to sand it and help with adhesion.  I was gifted two of these bottles and I love them.  They were used to hold wine in their first life.  Now they will add some happiness and joy to someones space instead of ending up in a land fill somewhere.

Bottle half completed

Beginning of stamping process

So far so good.  I love the way the colors of the stamps come together.  Even though this bottle is personal size, it’s going to be full of personality when it’s done.

Completed bottle stamps

All the stamps are on

Now that all the stamps have been attached, it’s time to embellish and finish the top of the bottle.  I found a chain with some burnt orange beads.  I think this will be the perfect necklace for this bottle.

Tomorrow I’ll have to go to the store and buy some corks.  I found, to my dismay, that I’m completely out of them.  Oh woe is me, now I have to go to the supply store.  hehe

As I was sorting stamps today I ran across a few that I took out for later projects.  These just struck me a particularly lovely and I wanted to share them with you.  Tiny little works of art they are.

Here are some other things I finished today.  The first is part of the J a day collection.  Can you see the J’s along the top of the pot?

Daisy Pot

I also finished this little wash basin.  I had painted the lines on this awhile back but simply couldn’t decide what else I wanted on it.  Today the daisies just spoke to me and they seem a perfect fit for this sweet and spring basin.  I think it would be perfect holding hair goodies or makeup.  What do you think?

Spring basin

Ignore the boxes it’s sitting on.  LOL  I told you I wasn’t organized today.  I did want you to see it though.  I also painted this sign today.  I’m really happy with the way it turned out.  I absolutely adore butterflies, but they have been a bane to my existence for so long.  I have really struggled to learn to paint them.  This is one of the first attempts that I’m actually happy with.  I know I will only improve now.  Isn’t it funny how once we conquer something that it no longer controls us?

I also had a brainstorm about two pieces that have been sitting in my studio for a while.  Dare to take a guess on what I’m planning?  I’ll post pictures as soon as I’m done.

I also found a bottle while I was looking for corks today that I had forgotten all about.  Isn’t the shape spectacular?  She also has her top which is a huge plus.  I still don’t know how I’m going to alter this one, but I’ve put it up on the shelf so it can tell me what it wants to be soon.

Well my fellow creators that’s it for tonight.  I hope you enjoyed the tour of the studio.  I’ll be announcing this months giveaway friday.  Thank you as always for stopping in!  I love to see you here.  Thank you for all of your love and support.  You help me live my dreams everyday.  Do you have any idea how special that makes you?  I also want to thank those of you who have been telling your friends about me.  It’s so cool to see new likes on the Peachbutter Studio Arts page on Facebook and it’s really awesome when I get emails from y’all.  Have a fantastic day and tune in tomorrow for more art, creativity and love!

Summer Citrus on a beautiful day.

Hello my most fabulous friends!  I hope things are wonderful in your part of the world today.  Things here have returned to normal and that’s fantastic.  My mother is recovering slowly but surely.  She’s minding her doctors and has a new neurosurgeon who she adores.

My hours at the shop have calmed down and I’ve had more time to create again.  It feels so very good to be back in the studio and getting lost in art.   I also discovered several projects I had begun before all of this happened that I had forgotten about.  I’m anxious to finish them and post pics.  I’m also working on getting caught up on the J’s so those pics will be posted soon as well.

Last night I decided I wanted to make a new batch of soap.  I’ve had some scents that I’ve wanted to work with for a while now and last night I did.  The result was this summer citrus soap.  I made this with the hot process method in the crock pot.  I absolutely love the way the colors turned out.  It’s a lovely yellow soap with pink embeds.  It has a bright sparkly citrus fruity scent that is heavenly!

Summer Citrus Soap

It was so much fun making this soap.  I had to laugh this morning when I woke up and couldn’t wait to cut it.  I can’t really explain why I was so happy and excited about this batch, but honestly I felt like I was a kid on Christmas morning.  After I trimmed the bars and made the soap balls I washed my hands.  The lather was amazing.  This was a new recipe and I’m really really happy with it.

And just a heads up, it’s almost time for another giveaway.  WOO HOO!  I love giveaways.  They are so much fun and I always make new friends in the process.

The rest of today is going to be spent creating.  I love you all and I mean that sincerely.  🙂  Now hug your most beautiful self and go out and have a jazzy kinda day!  I’ll see you tomorrow.

Pink Monkey’s and Green Gecko’s

Hello my fellow people lovers!  I hope you’ve had a most delicious and fabulous weekend.  Mine was quite interesting.  I’ve been working on a series of dancing pigs for my website.  None of them are finished yet but they are all in the works.  While I was researching dancing and dancers I ran across so many different images.  I decided to paint a couple of these idea’s as J’s for the St. Jude’s project.  This first picture is the pink monkey J from yesterday.  She doesn’t seem too upset with me that she had to wait for the camera batteries to charge.  I painted her pink just because I love pink and I think it would be cool if we had pink monkeys in the world.  Since we don’t, I just added one to mine.  hehe

J113 Pink Monkey J

I need a name for this little girl.  If you leave a comment with a name and I pick that name I will send you a free solid perfume of your choice.  🙂  Who wants to play?

This second pic is of the green gecko I painted today.  I love him.  I used to include little blue gecko’s in most of my paintings.  I’m not really sure when or why I stopped doing that.  It was fun and often they were very difficult to spot in my larger works.  Perhaps I should begin to include them again.  I named this lil guy Grayson.  I think he’s pretty groovy.

J114 Grayson Gecko J

I can’t believe that we’re coming up on the 125 J’s mark already!  It seems like just yesterday I began this project.  I’ve decided that I’m going to do another giveaway to celebrate.  I will be posting the giveaway with J125 so stay tuned!  I’m going to do they same thing I did last time to pick the winner.  All those who leave comments the week after the giveaway announcement will have their name put into a hat.  The winner will be drawn and posted here.  I hope y’all will all participate again.  I had so much fun with the last one and it makes me smile to know that my work goes to live with people who read my blog and follow my art.  Y’all ROCK by the way.  Just sayin.

Tomorrow I will be posting some pics of some of the solid cologne I’ve been working on.  I’m having so much fun making them and the two new mens scents are seriously drool worthy!  NOM!  Have a wonderful night and don’t forget to hug your most magnificent self before sleep.  Thank you for blessing me with your visits and your emails.  I don’t know how I got to lucky to have all of you in my life but I’ll take it!

Bottled Up Joy

Hello my fellow life joy seekers!  I got so caught up in my art tonight that I lost track of time!  I didn’t make my midnight deadline.  This makes me sad but I’m still posting the artwork because I made this committment and I’m keeping it.  I hope you will forgive me being 15 minutes late.

Today I have been doing a lot of thinking about all of the blessings in my life.  I have a wonderful family.  I have the most amazing friends on the face of the planet and I am surrounded by love and light.  What’s not to love?   Someone commented to me yesterday that I’m always happy and uplifting.  That made me laugh because I’m not always happy.  I’m a human being and I have bad days just like everyone else.  I think what people notice about me these days is that when I do have a bad day I don’t allow it to drag me down.

I am a firm believer in positive thinking and positive actions.  Norman Vincent Peale used to say, “Change your thoughts and change your life.”   I heard that message over and over again before it finally sunk in.  Good thing God didn’t give up on me!

Tonight as I was trying to decide what I was going to create as my J I knew I wanted to do something different.  I sat down at my table and just began letting my hands move over different things.  I painted a canvas different shades of brown and set it aside.  It wasn’t speaking to me tonight.  Then I painted a little metal washpan.  It’s going to be cute but it wasn’t the J for tonight either.  Finally I picked up one of the bottles that my friends have given me.  I just began to add things to it.  As I worked on it I began to think of all the joy I have in my life and how I don’t always express it.  That’s when I knew that this altered bottle would be tonight’s J.  I have a lot of joy that I keep bottled up and there it was.  J100 Bottled up Joy!  So here she is.

J100 Bottled Up Joy

As I thought about my bottled up joy, it dawned on me that I often keep things inside because I am scared of overwhelming people.  I’m afraid of appearing too happy or too joyful.  Isn’t that crazy?  I’m not really sure where that comes from but I’m making a promise to myself to try not to do that anymore.  Joy and love are good things and I’m going to try to give even more of them.  I believe that we can’t be uplifting to others without lifting ourselves up in the process.  Pretty cool system don’t ya think?  I know I’m on board for it!

I know you always bring  joy and happiness into my world with your visits.  I love the comments and the uplifting emails y’all send me.  I love the different treasures that y’all share with me.  In fact, this little bottle is wearing a part of a necklace that I bought from my friend Andrea at Rose Tree Originals on Etsy.  I think it’s the perfect match for this piece!  Thank you all for being the rays of sunshine that you are.  Thank you for making my world brighter and much much warmer.  Thank you for not keeping your joy bottled up.

The truth is it’s fun to play the game.

Hello you winged creatures of love.  I had a very interesting experience tonight.  I was contacted by someone on facebook about making a donation for the Susan G. Komen foundation.  My knee jerk reaction was, hummmm maybe a scam.  I asked some friends about it and got a variety of answers.  Many of them were suspicious as well.  As I thought about it, I realized that I don’t want to live my life in a suspicious manner.  I want to do research, find out the facts and act on those.  So I started digging.  It turns out this person is legit and is going to be hosting a hardball tournament in California to raise money for the cure.  They will also be hosting an auction and raffle and that’s what I will be donating too.  Now I just have to figure out what to send.  I’m now officially excited!  I will post the details here as soon as I talk to her.

This got me to thinking about how that experience tied in so perfectly with the J I drew tonight.  I drew tonight’s J just as something different from my usual style.  It’s titled “J89 Joker J”.

J89 Joker J

It’s so awesome to me that I drew this before my encounter tonight.  You know, when you think about it, every time we give a donation or give a homeless person money or buy something from a street vender we are taking a risk.  We are risking our money for what they offer.  I have decided that I’m going to give.  If they make the decision to do something other than what they say they are going to do with my gifts then that is between them and God.  I know I’ve given with a loving open heart.  My side of the street is not only clean but all decorated up cool and groovy!

I love life.  I love playing the game.  You know the one.  The one where you go around blessing others.  The one where you see how many people you can bless and before you know it you are being blessed beyond measure yourself.  Isn’t the universe cool?  Oh yeah baby!  Decorate the streets with love!  *BIGSMOOCHHUGSANDSTUFF*

Creating on the fly.

Hello you glowing time surfers!  Tonight I’m going to share with you about how I have been creating on the fly.  As you saw from last nights post, I wasn’t able to write much at all.  We had some pretty severe storms here last night so I had to shut the computer down.

Today was a bit crazy and I didn’t have much extra time at all.  So tonight I’m going to play catch up with y’all and show you the finished work that you’ve only seen pieces of for the last couple of days.

First up is Lil Miss Seahorse.  I had her finished yesterday but I didn’t have time to snap a pic.  I thought it was more important to snap a pic of yesterday’s J so that’s what I did.  Here she is in all her colorful glory.

Seahorse J full color

I love the way she turned out.  I was worried about her facial features but they came out just as I had envisioned.  YAY!   The next pic is of yesterday’s J with the roses and butterflies.  It was kinda of neat to work on this spring piece with raging thunderstorms all around me.

Roses and butterflies full color

That brings us to tonight’s J.  I am calling this On the Fly because I just barely had time to get it done and write this blog post tonight.  I have come to realize that there are going to be days like this and I just have to forgive myself for not being able to create something spectacular.  I will have to focus instead on the fact that I’m still on track and creating a J every day no matter what.

J88 On the fly J

This is a small piece done on watercolor paper with copic markers.  I want to thank you all for visiting and commenting.  I also want to thank you for the emails of support.  It means a lot to me!  I hope your week is going well and that tomorrow you will witness or create some magic in the world.  Both of which are great.  Sing a song, walk in the sunshine, smooch a dog or nuzzle with a kitty.  If none of these things strike your fancy perhaps you could try hot air ballooning or playing an accordion.  Make your own magic baby!  Abracadabra!

I believe in love.

Hello you cosmic jelly beans!  I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend.  I woke up today expecting an adventure and I wasn’t disappointed.  I told you yesterday that I was going to have to go buy a new blending pen or some blending solution today in order to finish the seahorse J.  This is where the fun began.  I woke up this morning to an email from Michaels.  This email included a 40% off coupon for all artists pens and markers.  SCORE!  I called the store, they said they had them and off I went.  I was smiling and singing as I drove to Michaels.  Soon, oh so very soon I would have my coveted blending pen AND it’s going to be 40% off!  I arrive on the scene only to discover that not only do they not have the blending solution but they don’t even carry the copic markers.  Apparently the employee I spoke too either guessed or just said they had them in order to get off the phone.  Thirty minutes, two employees and one manager later, it was indeed confirmed that I was out of luck.

No worries!  I hopped in my car and dashed over to Hobby Lobby.  Ahhhh Hobby Lobby.  They have a definite soft spot in my heart.  Not only do they carry everything under the sun but they also have the best customer service in my experience.  I turn the corner and see the light at the entrance to the shopping center.  I’m so excited I can barely stand it.  I am going to come home and finish my little seahorse and then start on tonight’s J.  Then it happened.  I made my turn and saw an empty parking lot.  Initially I panicked.  Surely by beloved Hobby Lobby hasn’t gone out of business?!!  I drive slowly up to the door, almost afraid to see an empty building.  Then I see the sign.  Sunday hours….CLOSED.   I simultaneously felt the following things.  Oh thank God they are still open!  Rats I can’t get my pen today!  That’s so cool that they are closed on Sundays and their employees get that day off every week!  I have a newfound respect for Hobby Lobby.  I love them.  Seriously, I do.

I came home and decided to do a bit of coloring on the seahorse anyway.  I decided not to finish because I was not getting the blending that I wanted.  However, I promised you yesterday that you would see some color on the seahorse today so here she is so far.

Seahorse J partial color

After working on her for a bit I tried to think of something to create for tonight’s J.  Blank.  Absolute and total blank.  We’re talkin, the kinda blank the first time you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar as a kid.  The kinda blank when the good-looking guy smiles at you in high school.  Blank I tell ya, nada, nothing.  I sat down and painted the background of a canvas.  Very pretty pink, lavender and blues mixed.  It’s nice but it’s not speaking to me today.  Then I pondered a zen J.  Not in the mood for that and one must be in the mood to create an effective zentangle.

So, I did what I always do when I’m stuck.  I move on to something else and work on that.  I allow my mind to release what I was so tense about and allow it to focus on the new project.  This worked out well for me today because I was able to finish my friends box that I’ve been working on for a couple of weeks a few minutes at a time.  Here is the finished box.

G's box

I am going to fill this box with tiny 3 X 3 inch cards in envelopes with silly jokes, inspirational quotes and art by the inch pieces for her to discover each day.  I hope it helps her to smile a bit as she goes through the radiation treatments.  I’ll post some pics of the contents in a few days after I mail it to her.

After I finished the box I began to look around for something to create my J on.  Then I saw it.  It was a canvas that I had already prepped the background in browns.  I had pasted the word LOVE along the bottom and stamped a heart with wings.  I had also glued two blank pieces of cardstock on the left.  I had intended to create a very elaborate mixed media piece.  But a funny thing happened on the way to the J tonight.  This canvas told me it wanted to be a forest.  So I give you tonight’s J.  A forest of love trees.  J86 Believe in Love J.

J86 Believe in Love J

I do believe in love.  I believe that love is always the answer, even when it’s the hardest answer.  I believe that YOU are a walking, talking, disco dancin love machine!  Or you know, there is a possibility that you are a two-step line dancing machine, but really people aren’t as interested in the type of dance as much as the fact that you do the dance.  WOO HOO look at those moves!  Oh yeah.  Oh yeah.  Rock on.  Rock on with your fabulous self!
