Giveaway winner and finished bottle.

Hello my little dewdrops!  I hope you all are managing to stay cool in this heatwave.  It was 102 here today!  It’s gotten so hot so early this year.  I’m wondering what August is going to be like in the south.  LOL

First things first tonight.  We have a winner for the soap and perfume giveaway.  Congratulations Ricky!  For those of you who didn’t win this time, don’t give up.  There will be another giveaway next month as well.

Today I finished the stamp bottle.  I’m so happy with the way it turned out.  What do y’all think?  I found a brass button and glued it to the top.  I love the way the dome of the button gives it a finished look.  I also used some of my bohemian fibers to wrap around the top.  It really gives the bottle some more color and ties it all together with the color of the stamps.  Finally I added her necklace back after sealing her stamps and then tied a little key from the top as well.  The key is a reminder that we all have the key to find our “message in a bottle”.  We simply have to open our hearts to possibilities.

This bottle will be on sale in my Etsy shop tomorrow afternoon.  I hope she finds a good home.  🙂   This is one of those pieces that I kinda fell in love with while making it.

I want you to know that you are making me smile right now.  Mostly because you are visiting but also because I’m sort of picturing you rollerskating in your pj’s over roads made out of rainbow candy.  Looks like lots of fun.  I wonder if I can attach skates to my pink bunny slippers?  I’ll get back to you on that.  Sleep sweet tonight and dream wonderful dreams.  You just might see them come true!  Much love always.

Stamps, Flowers and Positive Energy

Hello you fabulous sexy creatures!  I hope you’ve had a good day.  I’ve been thinking about you all day today.  It was a wonderful day for me in the studio.  I got so much done today and also got a good start on some other things.  I woke up happy and energetic today.  I had so much creative energy that it was difficult to concentrate on one thing at a time.  I finally gave up on that plan and just let things flow naturally.  I actually accomplished more this way which I found really cool.

The first thing I did was sort through some stamps this morning.  I wanted some earth tones to use for a bottle I am altering.  The pile in the back is the one I used on the bottle.  See all the pretty colors in the front pile?  I’ve already got another idea for a way to use these.

I love working with stamps.  It’s such a groovy feeling when I’m creating art out of tiny little pieces of paper that already have art on them.  It’s always interesting to me to see what comes from my spirit as I’m working.  I often have an idea of what I want to make but rarely have it completely planned out.  Most of the time I’m happy with the results.

Green bottle and stamps

Bare bottle and stamps

Here is the bottle before anything was added.  I used a very fine grit sandpaper to sand it and help with adhesion.  I was gifted two of these bottles and I love them.  They were used to hold wine in their first life.  Now they will add some happiness and joy to someones space instead of ending up in a land fill somewhere.

So far so good.  I love the way the colors of the stamps come together.  Even though this bottle is personal size, it’s going to be full of personality when it’s done.

All the stamps are on

Now that all the stamps have been attached, it’s time to embellish and finish the top of the bottle.  I found a chain with some burnt orange beads.  I think this will be the perfect necklace for this bottle.

Tomorrow I’ll have to go to the store and buy some corks.  I found, to my dismay, that I’m completely out of them.  Oh woe is me, now I have to go to the supply store.  hehe

As I was sorting stamps today I ran across a few that I took out for later projects.  These just struck me a particularly lovely and I wanted to share them with you.  Tiny little works of art they are.

Here are some other things I finished today.  The first is part of the J a day collection.  Can you see the J’s along the top of the pot?

I also finished this little wash basin.  I had painted the lines on this awhile back but simply couldn’t decide what else I wanted on it.  Today the daisies just spoke to me and they seem a perfect fit for this sweet and spring basin.  I think it would be perfect holding hair goodies or makeup.  What do you think?

Ignore the boxes it’s sitting on.  LOL  I told you I wasn’t organized today.  I did want you to see it though.  I also painted this sign today.  I’m really happy with the way it turned out.  I absolutely adore butterflies, but they have been a bane to my existence for so long.  I have really struggled to learn to paint them.  This is one of the first attempts that I’m actually happy with.  I know I will only improve now.  Isn’t it funny how once we conquer something that it no longer controls us?

I also had a brainstorm about two pieces that have been sitting in my studio for a while.  Dare to take a guess on what I’m planning?  I’ll post pictures as soon as I’m done.

I also found a bottle while I was looking for corks today that I had forgotten all about.  Isn’t the shape spectacular?  She also has her top which is a huge plus.  I still don’t know how I’m going to alter this one, but I’ve put it up on the shelf so it can tell me what it wants to be soon.

Well my fellow creators that’s it for tonight.  I hope you enjoyed the tour of the studio.  I’ll be announcing this months giveaway friday.  Thank you as always for stopping in!  I love to see you here.  Thank you for all of your love and support.  You help me live my dreams everyday.  Do you have any idea how special that makes you?  I also want to thank those of you who have been telling your friends about me.  It’s so cool to see new likes on the Peachbutter Studio Arts page on Facebook and it’s really awesome when I get emails from y’all.  Have a fantastic day and tune in tomorrow for more art, creativity and love!

Greatness requires attention.

Hello you spiritual lightning bugs!  Tonight I want to share some things with you that have been on my mind lately.  As many of you know, I’ve been doing a good bit of work not only on my art, but also on myself.  I’ve been studying and reading and trying to practice what I preach.  The last part isn’t really that hard most of the time for me.  I mean I love people automatically so it’s rarely a challenge for me.  Once in a blue moon someone comes along who challenges me in this area though.  Today was one of those days.

As I walked into the drug store to buy some dish soap, there was a woman sitting on the sidewalk.  I noticed she was surrounded by stuffed animals and other dirty toys.  It was obvious that she was on some kind of drug or she was mentally ill.  As I approached the door she went into a rant about parking spaces and cigarettes and birds stealing her butts.  I smiled and walked inside.  As I was checking out she entered the store.  She was very loud in her expression of disdain at the world.  She also reaked.  I had to gather all of my composure as she stood next to me and spoke in gibberish for several minutes.  I spoke to her and asked her if she needed anything.  She simply responded with “The birds keep stealing my butts!”  She then went outside and began walking along the grass median between the store and the street.  I noticed as I got into my car that I was struggling with my feelings.  On the one hand, I felt very sorry for her.  On the other hand, I wanted somebody to do something with her.  Take her somewhere where she could get some help.  But who?  Where?

As I pulled out of my parking spot I looked over at her things that she had lined up by the wall of the store.   I put on my brakes and looked closer.  She had two of everything.  The things that stood out to me were the two little plastic dolls high heel shoes and then the two grape purple monkeys.  There was a method to this womans madness.  Whatever else was going on inside her mind, she was able to line up two of everything that she owned.  Just before pulling off I heard her say to this bird, “You keep singing.  Greatness requires attention.”   Then she was off on another gibberish rant.

As I drove home, I thought about this.  Greatness DOES require attention.  This is true for art, cooking, writing, sports, computer games and even love.  I read a quote recently that said, “We spend so much time looking for the perfect lover, when we should be creating the perfect love.”   This is what I am trying to create in my life and the lives of others.  I believe the perfect love is the love that we are able to give to others without expectation of reciprocation.  That’s the hard part sometimes.  It’s also the most rewarding when we are able to pull it off.  I am finding that the more I practice it, the more attention I pay to it, the easier it becomes.  It’s very satisfying and always leaves me wanting more.  And sometimes, my reminders come from the most unlikely places.

Today I checked my P.O. box and my friend Gaby had sent me a huge bag of stamps from all over the world.  THANK YOU GABY!  *HUGS*  She put a note in with them that said, “Go nuts!”  That made me giggle.  I have so many ideas in my head for how I want to use these.  And of course I had to create a J out of them.  This J simply flowed out of me tonight.  It was easy and natural and it made me smile because I had already decided what I was going to blog about tonight when I found the LOVE stamp.  That synched it.  Tonight’s J is titled “J116 Journey of Love Stamp J”.  I just love the way it turned out.

J116 Journey of Love Stamp J

I hope you like this piece.  I feel very connected to it.  I would love to hear any of your stories about how you’ve either been loved or been able to love someone unexpectedly.  Feel free to share here.  I really enjoy the dialogue and I learn so much from you all.  Thank you again for being the loving beings that you are.  Thank you for sending out positive energy into the universe.  I feel it.  I need it and I love it!

Bright colors and healing.

Hello you delicious little chocolate drop.  I see you over there, being all sweet and tempting.  hehe

I made a committment to a friend for some time tonight so tonight’s post will be short.  Tonight’s J is a paper mache’ ornament that I painted with acrylic paints.  I love the deep colors.  They are really going to pop when I add the high gloss sealer.  I’m going to have to locate the right finding for the bottom so I can hang it.  I may even make a tassle for it.  I’ll post pictures when I do.

There is a healing power in bright colors I believe.  Something about them draws me in every time.  I hope you like the ornament.  I had fun painting it.  So for tonight J115 Bright Ornament J.

Thanks for visiting and thanks for looking.  You make me smile every time I see your lil face here!

Jumble of J’s

Hello my sweet peeps.  I am having computer issues tonight so this is going to be short.  Tonight’s J is titled J101 Jumble of J’s.  I really like the simplicity of it.  I really struggled to stop.  I wanted to keep adding things but I made myself stop.  Isn’t it funny how we do that in life sometimes?  At least I do.  I’m learning to be still and just be.  That is also a struggle for me.  In any event, here is tonight’s J.  I hope you like it.

Thank you for bringing your beautiful gorgeous self here to visit.  You light up my world!  🙂

Bottled Up Joy

Hello my fellow life joy seekers!  I got so caught up in my art tonight that I lost track of time!  I didn’t make my midnight deadline.  This makes me sad but I’m still posting the artwork because I made this committment and I’m keeping it.  I hope you will forgive me being 15 minutes late.

Today I have been doing a lot of thinking about all of the blessings in my life.  I have a wonderful family.  I have the most amazing friends on the face of the planet and I am surrounded by love and light.  What’s not to love?   Someone commented to me yesterday that I’m always happy and uplifting.  That made me laugh because I’m not always happy.  I’m a human being and I have bad days just like everyone else.  I think what people notice about me these days is that when I do have a bad day I don’t allow it to drag me down.

I am a firm believer in positive thinking and positive actions.  Norman Vincent Peale used to say, “Change your thoughts and change your life.”   I heard that message over and over again before it finally sunk in.  Good thing God didn’t give up on me!

Tonight as I was trying to decide what I was going to create as my J I knew I wanted to do something different.  I sat down at my table and just began letting my hands move over different things.  I painted a canvas different shades of brown and set it aside.  It wasn’t speaking to me tonight.  Then I painted a little metal washpan.  It’s going to be cute but it wasn’t the J for tonight either.  Finally I picked up one of the bottles that my friends have given me.  I just began to add things to it.  As I worked on it I began to think of all the joy I have in my life and how I don’t always express it.  That’s when I knew that this altered bottle would be tonight’s J.  I have a lot of joy that I keep bottled up and there it was.  J100 Bottled up Joy!  So here she is.

J100 Bottled Up Joy

As I thought about my bottled up joy, it dawned on me that I often keep things inside because I am scared of overwhelming people.  I’m afraid of appearing too happy or too joyful.  Isn’t that crazy?  I’m not really sure where that comes from but I’m making a promise to myself to try not to do that anymore.  Joy and love are good things and I’m going to try to give even more of them.  I believe that we can’t be uplifting to others without lifting ourselves up in the process.  Pretty cool system don’t ya think?  I know I’m on board for it!
I know you always bring  joy and happiness into my world with your visits.  I love the comments and the uplifting emails y’all send me.  I love the different treasures that y’all share with me.  In fact, this little bottle is wearing a part of a necklace that I bought from my friend Andrea at Rose Tree Originals on Etsy.  I think it’s the perfect match for this piece!  Thank you all for being the rays of sunshine that you are.  Thank you for making my world brighter and much much warmer.  Thank you for not keeping your joy bottled up.

All Buttoned Up

Hello my universe ski boarders!  You look so cool surfin the stars.  🙂

Tonight I’m really in serious need of sleep so I am going to keep this short and sweet.  I’m glad you came to visit because I have something very important to tell you.  There is nobody in the universe like you.  The way you smile lights up the room.  Actually it lights up the entire astral plane but you know, I don’t want to freak you out or anything.  The point is that when people are around you they pretty much feel like they are flying kites and eating cotton candy.  Some of them pick candy apples because the sticky part is fun.  It’s all because of you and your awesomeness.  Really, it’s true.

Tonight’s J is titled “J91 All Buttoned Up J”  It’s a mixed media piece on canvas.  I love the way it turned out.  It’s all kinds of girly and magical.  I feel good about it.

J91 All Buttoned Up J

Sweet dreams when you go.  Fly a little, float a little and soar with the birds.  Maybe you could even let the Pink Flamingos fly in your dreams.  I’m going to be busy riding a flying elephant while I eat my candy apple.  Much love and joy to you as always.

I believe in love.

Hello you cosmic jelly beans!  I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend.  I woke up today expecting an adventure and I wasn’t disappointed.  I told you yesterday that I was going to have to go buy a new blending pen or some blending solution today in order to finish the seahorse J.  This is where the fun began.  I woke up this morning to an email from Michaels.  This email included a 40% off coupon for all artists pens and markers.  SCORE!  I called the store, they said they had them and off I went.  I was smiling and singing as I drove to Michaels.  Soon, oh so very soon I would have my coveted blending pen AND it’s going to be 40% off!  I arrive on the scene only to discover that not only do they not have the blending solution but they don’t even carry the copic markers.  Apparently the employee I spoke too either guessed or just said they had them in order to get off the phone.  Thirty minutes, two employees and one manager later, it was indeed confirmed that I was out of luck.

No worries!  I hopped in my car and dashed over to Hobby Lobby.  Ahhhh Hobby Lobby.  They have a definite soft spot in my heart.  Not only do they carry everything under the sun but they also have the best customer service in my experience.  I turn the corner and see the light at the entrance to the shopping center.  I’m so excited I can barely stand it.  I am going to come home and finish my little seahorse and then start on tonight’s J.  Then it happened.  I made my turn and saw an empty parking lot.  Initially I panicked.  Surely by beloved Hobby Lobby hasn’t gone out of business?!!  I drive slowly up to the door, almost afraid to see an empty building.  Then I see the sign.  Sunday hours….CLOSED.   I simultaneously felt the following things.  Oh thank God they are still open!  Rats I can’t get my pen today!  That’s so cool that they are closed on Sundays and their employees get that day off every week!  I have a newfound respect for Hobby Lobby.  I love them.  Seriously, I do.

I came home and decided to do a bit of coloring on the seahorse anyway.  I decided not to finish because I was not getting the blending that I wanted.  However, I promised you yesterday that you would see some color on the seahorse today so here she is so far.

Seahorse J partial color

After working on her for a bit I tried to think of something to create for tonight’s J.  Blank.  Absolute and total blank.  We’re talkin, the kinda blank the first time you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar as a kid.  The kinda blank when the good-looking guy smiles at you in high school.  Blank I tell ya, nada, nothing.  I sat down and painted the background of a canvas.  Very pretty pink, lavender and blues mixed.  It’s nice but it’s not speaking to me today.  Then I pondered a zen J.  Not in the mood for that and one must be in the mood to create an effective zentangle.

So, I did what I always do when I’m stuck.  I move on to something else and work on that.  I allow my mind to release what I was so tense about and allow it to focus on the new project.  This worked out well for me today because I was able to finish my friends box that I’ve been working on for a couple of weeks a few minutes at a time.  Here is the finished box.

G's box

I am going to fill this box with tiny 3 X 3 inch cards in envelopes with silly jokes, inspirational quotes and art by the inch pieces for her to discover each day.  I hope it helps her to smile a bit as she goes through the radiation treatments.  I’ll post some pics of the contents in a few days after I mail it to her.

After I finished the box I began to look around for something to create my J on.  Then I saw it.  It was a canvas that I had already prepped the background in browns.  I had pasted the word LOVE along the bottom and stamped a heart with wings.  I had also glued two blank pieces of cardstock on the left.  I had intended to create a very elaborate mixed media piece.  But a funny thing happened on the way to the J tonight.  This canvas told me it wanted to be a forest.  So I give you tonight’s J.  A forest of love trees.  J86 Believe in Love J.

J86 Believe in Love J

I do believe in love.  I believe that love is always the answer, even when it’s the hardest answer.  I believe that YOU are a walking, talking, disco dancin love machine!  Or you know, there is a possibility that you are a two-step line dancing machine, but really people aren’t as interested in the type of dance as much as the fact that you do the dance.  WOO HOO look at those moves!  Oh yeah.  Oh yeah.  Rock on.  Rock on with your fabulous self!

Just because is enough of a reason.

Hi groovy peeps!  Tonight as I created a Just Because handmade card for the J a day.  As I was working on this card I thought of all the different reasons we send cards to people.  Sometimes it’s a get well, or a sympathy card.  More often it’s birthday or valentines or some other milestone in someone’s life.  I always enjoy getting cards, but the ones that I love the most are the ones that I get just because.  I realized that there are several people in my life who I need to send a card too just because.  I’m going to change that this week.  Are there people in your life who need to hear how special they are?  Are YOU one of those people?  If so, I highly recommend doing something that makes you happy JUST BECAUSE!

J81 Just Because Card J

This little card is made out of an altered piece of file folder.  I gesso’d it then painted it a creamy brown color.  Next I added the strips of paper.  I also added some lace, a glittered button and the little lace flowers with beads.  I think it’s kinda cute.

Now just one more thing I want to tell you.  You are FABULOUS, STUPENDOUS and MAGNIFICENT!  And I’m telling you that….Just Because.

Small Little Secrets in a box

Hello my twinkling stars!  How are things in your world today?  I hope they are fabulous!  Good times here in Ga. today.  The weather was lovely, albeit a bit chilly.  Still, the sun was out and it was gorgeous.  We had a bit of adventure early this morning.  The wonder dog decided that she was tired of watching the squirrels that live in the tree across the parking lot from my apt.  She dragged me over to say hello.  She is still quite confused at the mass exodus that took place as she went barreling towards them.  Poor wonder dog.

I got a good bit accomplished today on the artistic front.  I finished this little trinket box that is tonight’s J.  I love it because it’s the perfect place to hide little trinkets or other secret things.  I had downloaded this antique picture of this sweet little girl ages ago.  I loved her but I couldn’t figure out how to use the image.  When I make these boxes I usually add three dimensional items since it is a shadow box on top.  This time I decided to use her image.  I love the effect.  I painted the green J’s along the corners and then added the swarvoski crystals to add just a little sparkle.  I love how it turned out.

J80 Little Secrets Box J

J80 Little Secrets Box Closeup

I think when it’s time for the art show I’m going to tuck some little something into this box as a surprise for the buyer.  I’ve been doing a lot of thinking this week about this project.  I’m really getting excited at the prospect of raising money with my art.  Right now I’m working on a canvas with an angel, a canvas with a pig and a flower-pot.  It’s going to be a wonderful mix of pieces and I’m hoping to appeal to many different tastes.  I want to thank y’all for emailing me and commenting with your words of encouragement.

I am a very upbeat person and I believe in sowing seeds of love, light and laughter into other people’s lives.  Sometimes as an artist you wonder if anyone is watching or if they care.  I think a lot of that comes from the isolation that is necessary to work.  I just wanted y’all to know how much your encouragement means to me.  There are days when it truly is my source of strength to keep going no matter what.  You’re the best!  Thank you.  Give yourself a big hug for me!
